CONCERT SERIES SINFONIA CHRISTKÖNIG WILL CONTINUE (by Christine Grubauer in: Neues Volksblatt, 17th Oct. 2017)

The Sinfonia Christkönig’s afternoon concert series has been thrilling the audience since its start five years ago. The cooperation of initiator/originator and conductor Eduard Matscheko with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra , which has not only taken over the patronage but is also always ready to take an active part, will be prolonged for another three years. This means that there will be three concerts a year again, in April, June, and October. This Sunday the concert master of  the Vienna Philharmonic, Rainer Honeck, came to play Benjamin Britten‘s rarely performed violin concerto in d-minor, op. 15. In three movements the admirable orchestra provided a „sound carpet“ with drums and cymbals for the soloist. ……  The great challenges for the winds ring out and are always in close contact with the solo violin. Similarly, the tuba and piccolos meet in the second movement before the solo cadence, which Rainer Honeck  presented like a sleepwalker between the musical worlds. Great praise for the orchestra that more than lived up to the high standards and could score a hit with two compositions by Franz Schubert: the ouverture of „Fierrabras“ and the Symphony in b-minor, „The Unfinished“ D 759. Enthusiastic applause for all participants.
