Concert series „Sinfonia Christkönig“ with violin concerto by Ingo Ingensand in Friedenskirche, Linz.
The concert series „Sinfonia Christkönig“ under the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Eduard Matscheko attracted a big audience last Sunday. The premiere of the violin concerto, op. 5, by Ingo Ingensand (* 1951) with Albena Danailova, concert master of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra was scheduled as highlight. At the beginning she presented Beethoven’s „Romance“ for violin and orchestra in F, op. 50, on her Stradivari from 1727. It was performed with magical and atmospherical brillance. For Ingensand’s honourable premiere the violinist had to choose a virtuous strategy with firm bows and pugnacious passages to supersede the rich orchestral sound. When there were surprising moments of a dialogue between violin and kettledrum, pegs with mallet instruments and harp followed immediately. Later a certain struggle between the solo violin and the trumpets and an interplay with the elegantly led woodwindplayers began. Ingensand created an ample and ambitious 40-minutes-work – lots of cheers and applause both for the soloist and the composer.
A feisty conductor: Matscheko was conceived as „feisty“ in Mozart’s three-movement – „Prague“ Symphony and managed to characterize the outstanding features of this masterpiece very well: consistency of the musical ideas, rich contrapunctal structuring with elegant colour effects alternating between major and minor. The performance was exciting, starting from the splendid beginning to a certain cheerfulness of the final movement. Great enthusiasm and delight.
