The concert of the Sinfonia Christkoenig conducted by Eduard Matscheko in the Friedenskirche presented exceptional musical highlights. Two members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra played the solo parts in Mozart’s „Sinfonia concertante“. Also, the whole concert was under the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic.
The wonderfully well-attuned pair of artists – Patricia Koll on her violin and her father Heinrich Koll as solo violist – provided the „Sinfonia concertante“ with a musical brillance and made the many tuneful cantilenas burgeon masterfully. The cadences were mastered with suspense-packed perfection. The orchestra accompanied the duo with concentration and due deference.
The mostly youthful ensemble played Schumann’s 4th Symphony with clearly audible conviction. The movements blend into each other and are rich in charming motifs right up to triumphant climaxes where the brass section excelled in particular. In the slow movement an intense romance was presented captivatingly.
Conductor Matscheko presented the varied symphonic structure with sensitive interpretation and sweeping gestures. The Sinfonia reached a commendable performance. The audience was enthusiastic.
