Again a brilliant performance of the Sinfonia Christkoenig that was worth hearing and absolutely thrilling in the Friedenskirche in Urfahr which was full to bursting. The concert series under the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by Eduard Matscheko. At the beginning Mozart’s „Paris“-Symphony KV 297 was presented with clear transparentness; then Britten’s highly expressive „Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings“ op. 31 followed with Tenor Jacques le Roux from the Musiktheater Opera House in Linz, who has a powerful voice and is well aware of affects, and the solo hornist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Josef Reif. Finally, there was Schubert’s Sinfony Nr. 4, also named “The Tragic“ on the programme: It turned out to be conductor Matscheko’s most brilliant achievement, who managed to unify the powerful dynamics of the orchestra and the overwhelming acoustics of the church to an extremely impressive performance.
