Sinfonia Christkoenig: 600 visitors at the Matscheko-Concert on Sunday afternoon
The concerts of the Sinfonia Christkoenig orchestra under Eduard Matscheko and the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra are always blessed with a special charm. Last Sunday this impression was confirmed by the presence of Clemens Hellsberg, the former chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic, who gave an honouring welcoming speech. He referred to the friendly relations between Sinfonia Christkoenig and the top orchestra and praised the programme, which focused on the glorification of nature.
Richard Wagner’s “Siegfried-Idyll“, which has nothing to do with the opera but the fact that it was completed a year before the the concert piece and shares some motifs with it, was presented as a unique embrace of his mistress Cosima by Richard Wagner. The strong relationship with nature led over to Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto in E-flat major, which was so classically interpreted that all the beauties of nature were expressed here, too.
As main work of the concert, Eduard Matscheko chose Beethoven’s “Pastoral Symphony“ in a performance that could bear comparison with any interpretation. He created the praise of nature in Beethoven’s “Sixth“ completely authentically, soulfully, without big gesticulation, cleverly and modest in humbleness to the work, and his musicians followed him with dedication. Just as he always does. Finally, the audience was so deeply moved that they almost forgot to applaud – but then the applause was all the bigger.
