Autumn concert of Sinfonia Christkoenig
It is amazing that the Christkönig parish church could be filled to the brim with an ambitious musical programme although the final concert of the Brucknerfest took place on the same day and it was the last Sunday of the Urfahr fair in fine weather. The Sinfonia Christkoenig has been renowned for some time as an ensemble that guarantees high quality and is therefore rightfully under the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. This Sunday afternoon the autumn concert presented Brahms’ Double Concerto and Beethoven’s fourth , rather difficult symphony. Albena Danailova and Tamás Varga, concert master and solo cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic, did themselves the honour of playing the solo parts and fascinated the audience with their exact and inspiring way of playing. It was not only the excellent cooperation of the soloists that was absolutely delightful but also the beautiful and finely tuned accompaniment by the Sinfonia Christkönig. Together with its founder and leader Eduard Matscheko the orchestra started a daring exploratory trip in causa Beethoven, and together they absolutely wonderfully mastered the difficulties of the 4th symphony, which is generally considered to be Beethoven’s most tricky one. What delights everybody is the pure joy of making music, the happiness of professional musicians of other orchestras, of professors , teachers, and students about playing and creating such music together. It would be great if always and everywhere music were played with such devotedness. (Michael Wruss)
