Together with its committed musicians the Sinfonia Christkönig Orchestra with its leader and founder Eduard Matscheko is organizing their 10th concert season in 2022/23. It has become an essential part of concert life in Linz. The fact that the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has successfully been built up, which allows a wonderful cooperation with soloists, is a special experience in every concert.
Outstanding soloist – This was also true at last Sunday’s concert with soloist Maxim Brilinsky (born in Ukraine in 1985). The violinist did not only play the “Rondo” by Franz Schubert in A-Major, D 438, as phenomenal philharmonic soloist but also took his home country to the stage with himself by playing Myroslav Skoryk’s (1938 – 2020) Concerto for Violin and Orchestra Nr 4. This work by the renowned Ukrainian composer sounded like a foreshadowing of what Skoryk did not live to witness: a tragic interplay of martial intervention of the drums with attacks of the wind ensemble and yearning sounds of the strings. The solo part of the artist born in Lviv sounded full of great hope and had an enormous effect on the deeply moved audience which reacted with standing ovations and long acclaim. They were rewarded by the soloist with a conciliatory piece by Fritz Kreisler, played with great virtuosity.
After the intermission Schubert’s “Great” Symphony in C-Major, D 944 followed. Together with his musicians Matscheko succeeded in creating vibrant liveliness. The movements were amazing, both the masterly techniques of the strings and wind ensemble and also by their stamina right up to the festive and magnificent finale.
A great musical harvest for the 10th anniversary which delighted the audience in the fully booked church. Long standing ovations!
