Sinfonia Christkönig presented a convincing performance of this sacred jewel Several minutes of applause, cheering, standing ovations at the end of the concert series before the summer break. In the Friedenskirche, the audience cheered on the performing artists, who celebrated a genuine jewel of sacred music: Joseph Haydn’s oratorio „The Creation“. The lyrics are based on the Book of Genesis and on John Milton’s „Paradise Lost“. Eduard Matscheko conducted Chor and Sinfonia Christkönig with the professionalism that he is renowned for: clear and determined, but also delicate and with excellent understanding of the special features of this great piece of music.
Well balanced sound In the first movement the coordination within the orchestra was not quite trouble-free but very soon common ground was found in every respect. Matscheko guaranteed the balance between orchestra, choir and soloists, which resulted in a well-balanced sound effect in the church hall. Equally convincing was the performance of the three soloists Ilia Vierlinger (soprano), Jan Petryka (tenor), and Klaus Kuttler (bass). Ilia Vierlinger’s soprano has always been known as very beautiful, but now it also has impressive power. Supremely good Klaus Kuttler deserves special acclaim. Hadn’t we been informed that he took over from Albert Pesendorfer on very short notice, we would not have noticed.
